TIPS FOR SAVING ENERGY AT SCHOOL-
|
Tip 1: Standby appliances need to be switched off via the wall socket, meaning someone has to switch it off manually. This will help reduce the wasted energy being used while the appliances aren’t even occupied.
Tip 2: Keep your classroom doors closed whenever possible. This will help prevent cool or warm air from escaping. This keeps the heat in the rooms without having to continuously turn up and down the heating, which consequently uses more energy. Tip 3: Don’t overheat or overcool. In winter, set your school’s thermostat to 18°C–20°C and in summer set it to 24°C–27°C. This way the thermostat will stop the heating systems using as much energy. Tip 4: Remind everyone to turn off appliances at the wall when they are not in use. Appliances that are not in use are running in the background. As energy is being wasted, there is less available energy to be used elsewhere within the school. Tip 5: Remember to turn the lights off when you leave a classroom. Schools keep lights powered on permanently as it is easier than switching them on and off. |

INTERVIEW
INTERVIEW SUMMARY
The measures taken by the school to save electricity are there has been a separate meter installed in school for residential and commercial usage. Another measure to save electricity is the facility to switch off the electricity for the entire block only with few switches. This helps in saving electricity if the last person leaving the classroom has forgotten to switch off the lights or fan.
The various other consumption of electricity in school is shifting and provide water supply at various dorms on the campus. It’s also used in the kitchen for utilising various equipment. The maintenance department also uses different machinery.
The alternative ways for using electricity in absences of electricity is inventor and converter.
The school also takes a lot of precautions measures to avoid any sort of disaster in terms of electricity. Some of them are using good quality wires and switches. Fire extinguishers are installed at various places in the school.
Ideas and implementation for solar electricity in school are in the pipeline and would be installed soon. There are some pre-requisites to consider when it comes to solar panel installation. It requires a lot of sunlight which is a concern in a hill station like Panchgani. Installation of the solar panel takes a lot of space. But the school is working on it and will implement this idea soon.

PART TWO- RESEARCH WORK
SCHOOL POLICIES FOR SAVING ENERGYOur school has a policy in which we have to switch-off the lights or fans when no one is in the class or there is no need of them.
When we go out the last boy to leave the class has to make sure all the lights and fans are switched off. Our school also appoint two boys from each class as the monitor and assistant monitor who also looks after the energy saving of the class. Even the teachers look after for the same. There are also the people from the maintenance department who visit the classes in the break time to see if all the things are switched off. |
The three things which school should include in energy saving
I think the three aspects which school should include in the energy saving are-
- Generate our own electricity with Solar PV power.
- Install timed tap systems.
- In the daytime teachers of the respective subjects should take the students outside in the nature and teach them, by this the students could feel fresh and focus in the studies.
The three ways to actively save energy are-
2. Utilize natural light moreWe have been discussing the various ways energy is consumed by the different school building systems and what are the ways to save that consumption. We saw how things like motion sensors, energy management systems, etc. prove helpful for the purpose.
However, have you been not thinking to cash the most powerful source of light available, the sun? Think about that and start promoting the students to utilize natural light as much as possible. This will save your money, increase student productivity, and save them from health issues. You can start with letting the sunlight in classrooms by opening the blinds. It will be even better for the classroom lights with dimming controls as the light will get adjusted accordingly and save energy too. However, this method is going to prove energy-saving anyway since natural light will cost you nothing and lit up the whole environment naturally. |
3. Focus on solar power generationSometimes, we need to think out of the box to deal with the simplest of issues. This creative thinking is required here too. How about not having the energy costs exist at all? You must be probably thinking that we are blabbering now. Let us say, what about going solar? We are talking about the solar panels that have been designed to save the planet. The prime idea is that energy consumption is inevitable and this will only rise no matter how much you try against it. Similar is the case with school buildings that need huge energy to keep functioning every day.
The initial cost of solar conversion is, nonetheless, going to be high. However, you can still try to make it affordable. This can be done with the rebates offered by various power companies often that make the conversion a good option. Once you switch to solar energy, you will observe the immediate effect on your power bills. Solar energy generates a positive ROI for all the facilities and saves resources too. |
CONCLUSION
Energy can be saved in the school by two most effective ways which are-
1. Modify the Bathroom Settings
A huge energy drain happens in bathrooms too. Unnecessary wastage of light along with frequent usage of water in the sinks and toilet flushes casts a negative impact on the environment too. The changes need to be made here too and you must think about installing water-saving toilets and sinks too. You will save a lot on the bills and utility costs.
Energy saver hand dryers are also a good option to check out. These dryers have very low maintenance needs and save a lot of energy as well. Paper towels are not only an outdated option but also harmful to the environment and budget. You need to maintain the supply of paper towels to the toilets always and that only increases the bills fast.
However, such modifications can come with huge initial costs. You can try other measures to avoid that. The idea is to keep the appliances in good working condition to save energy and that can be achieved with repairing too. Keep the toilets and leaky faucets repaired.

2. ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO RECYCLE
Most of the students know what things can be recycled, so encourage them to recycle as it may also be helpful in saving energy. Encourage kids to do their part by creating a point system for recyclers, or assign extra credit projects focused on recycling and environmental impact.
REPORT OF COMMUNICATION
We stayed in contact with each other as we called our group members weekly and discuss the work we had to do. Then we would do a meeting on google meet before the video conference and discuss the questions for the neighboring school and also discussed the answers which they would send us. From the Video Conference we also improved our Communication skills. We also learned how to work as a team and express our views, and also understood that what true teamwork meant. We all were nervous in the starting but removed the fear as more video conferences were being conducted.
Communication with our partner school :
1. Helped us in enriching the knowledge about other country.
2. It especially helped us in knowing the education system of the partner school.
3. The measures taken by partner schools to save electricity.

EVIDENCE OF THE COMMUNICATION
COMPARISON
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES
SIMILARITIES-
1. Both the schools use Natural Light during the daytime. |
DIFFERENCES-
1. Most of the Indian Schools don't use solar power, but in Netherlands most of the schools have solar power. 2. The Indian schools use tissue papers while, the Netherlands schools use hand heater. 3. Indian schools use fans in the classrooms, but the netherland schools prefer to use AC. |
CONCLUSION
At end we would tell that the best or the most effective ways to save energy are-
1. Assign Classroom Jobs.
2. Have Class in the grass.
3. Turn off the computer, Projectors when they are not in use.
